[ UPDATES TO SERVICE ADVISORY - 31 AUGUST 2010 ]
The following Service Advisory alerted owners of COOLPIX 5400, COOLPIX 5000, COOLPIX 4500 and COOLPIX 3500 Nikon digital cameras that Nikon would service the affected cameras free of charge regardless of the warranty status of the product. Some models have already been serviced to resolve this issue, at no cost to the user, even after the stock for the repair parts are no longer available. However, please be aware that the term for this offer will expire on 31 August 2011. Services required to address this issue after the offer expires will be handled in accordance with standard Nikon repair policies.
Kindly contact your nearest authorised Nikon Service Centre(s) as soon as possible to have your camera inspected and serviced.
Please be aware that repair parts for some older models may no longer be available, making repairs other than the free service discussed here impossible.

It has come to our attention that electronic component related to imaging in some Nikon COOLPIX 5400, COOLPIX 5000, COOLPIX 4500 and COOLPIX 3500 digital camera may, on rare occasions fail.
We announced occurrence of this issue with our COOLPIX 5700, COOLPIX SQ, and COOLPIX 3100 on October 10, 2005. However, with continued investigation into this matter, we discovered that the same issue may occur with Nikon COOLPIX 5400, COOLPIX 5000, COOLPIX 4500 and COOLPIX 3500 digital cameras when used in conditions of high temperature and/or high humidity.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused users of the additional affected products.
Should you experience this problem with your Nikon COOLPIX 5400, COOLPIX 5000, COOLPIX 4500 and COOLPIX 3500 digital camera, Nikon will replace the component free of charge when failure of the applicable component is confirmed upon camera inspection even if the camera's warranty has already expired.
