Service Advisory for Nikon COOLPIX L16 and L18 Digital Camera
28 September 2008
NIKON HONG KONG LTD.
Thank you for choosing Nikon for your photography needs.
A problem has been identified where a limited number of COOLPIX L16 or L18 digital compact cameras may overheat in the unlikely event of the batteries being inserted with the positive and negative terminals reversed, and also if the camera receives a shock or impact at the same time. Under these circumstances the failure may happen regardless of whether the power switch is in the ON or OFF position. In the worst possible case, overheating may cause the camera's top cover to become deformed and the camera will not work any more.
This failure does not occur if the batteries are inserted with the positive and negative terminals in the correct orientation. Please take the necessary precautions to ensure that the batteries are inserted in the correct direction by following the guidelines in your instruction manual 'First Steps – Battery insertion' section
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this issue may cause, and would like to inspect and, if necessary, repair the applicable products free of charge even if your warranty period may have expired. The products in question are identified below.
